(Please note that I have updated this using Ruby Version Manager;
Rhomobile RhoStudio Linux with RVM on Ubuntu 11.10. Installing Java, Android SDK, EclipseADT, Rhodes)
Getting a Ruby setup on Kubuntu is not really as easy as InstantRails so we are going to go through some screenshots right to the point where we can get all the good apps like Rails and Rhodes listed under RubyGems. We want to get to a place where ‘gem list –local’ lists all are gems and we can then easily perform ‘sudo gem update’ to update all.
Using ‘sudo apt-get install’ to get get Ruby 1.8 or 1.9 works fine. I did the basic install for RubyGems and then Rails and they were installed but when I ran the command ‘gem list –local’ nothing showed up. Thus, we’re going to go through some of the techniques to find out where Ruby, RubyGems and Rails were installed and get to the place where all out Gems are listed correctly.
The main point visible by the searches for the folders is that RubyGems is located in /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin and we need change out PATH to include this. On Windows we do this with System Variables and on linux we can use the CLI or a text editor.
To make gem work properly you should write gem’s path to PATH add to ~/.bashrc:
